SR22 Insurance
Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR) or an SR-22, is a certificate mandated by the state and provided by your auto insurance company that verifies that you have auto insurance liability coverage. You are required to have insurance without lapse for 3 years. If you cancel your auto insurance and don't get another policy, the insurance company will notify the DMV and your license will be suspended.
Usually, it is required by the California court or mandated by the state of California only for certain driving-related violations. Examples are: DUI's, reckless driving, wet and reckless violation, accidents caused by uninsured drivers. You will be notified by the courts that you are required to obtain an SR-22.
You need to notify us (your insurance agent) that you are required to obtain an SR-22. When we write an auto policy we are able to issue the SR-22 that will be give to you as proof of filing as well as the insuring company will notify directly to the DMV. There is a separate one time fee for SR-22 filing when you start a new auto insurance policy. This fee will be added to your first 6 month auto insurance premium.
No, we can issue a liability policy for a non-owned auto policy and add the SR-22 filling. The minimum liability requirements are the 15/30/5 limits that are required by the State of California.
