My message would be incomplete without a reference to Allied's reputation for financial discipline. This is another reason why we're a carrier of choice. We're holding nearly steady in direct written premium for 2010 despite the market trend, and with your help, our retention rate finished at 86.2 percent. I'm especially pleased that our region was able to control the controllable and finish strong with almost $100 million in net operating income. We're in an excellent position to add new agencies and customers throughout 2011.

Finally, I truly credit our regional success to our mutual commitment to a strong partnership. When you succeed, we do too, so you can rely on Allied to keep service mind. Carrier competition remains tough, so to help reduce the headwinds our Digital Marketing site went live in October with web-based tools to help you capture more potential customers. We knew agents were looking for guidance with this type of marketing. We met the challenge with a do-it-yourself approach that has the flexibility to meet a variety of needs. Web-based marketing also offers faster measurement of your results so you can quickly pivot toward the efforts that are generating the best return.

Allied was a technology award winner in 2010. We earned the Real Time Adoption Award and 2010 Interface Leadership Award from Applied Systems for our Agent Center enhancements. These included next-day policy activity notifications and the ability to view the same billing and dec pages your customers receive.

In this challenging market, we're also proud to deliver a trade combined ratio of 99.5. The economy prompted us to make hard underwriting decisions over the past few years regarding where and what we write. Balanced with our expense reductions and losses,delivering a TCR under 100 reinforces that we've been making the right decisions to remain financially strong for you and"our policyholders.

In 2011and beyond, you'll see a' continued focus on the Independent, yet never alone value proposition. As a whole, Nationwide is reclaiming its roots as a mutual company, by putting more emphasis than ever before on the customer and finding ways to provide even more personalized service.
